1. Patient Rights
A. Right to Receive Medical Care
Patients have the right to receive appropriate health and medical services for the protection and promotion of their health, and shall not have their health-related rights infringed on the grounds of sex, age, religion, social status, economic circumstances, or the like; medical personnel shall not refuse to provide medical care without justifiable grounds.
B. Right to Know and Right to Self-Determination
Patients may receive a sufficient explanation from their attending physicians, nurses, and other staff regarding their medical condition, treatment methods, whether they are subject to medical research, whether organ transplantation is involved, expected outcomes including side effects, and the cost of medical care, and may ask detailed questions about these matters; patients have the right to decide whether or not to consent thereto.
C. Right to Confidentiality
Patients shall not have their physical and health-related secrets connected with medical care or the secrets of their private lives infringed, and medical personnel and medical institutions shall not divulge or disclose such secrets except with the patient's consent or in cases prescribed by law, such as criminal investigations.
D. Right to Request Counseling and Mediation
In the event of a dispute related to medical services, patients may request counseling and mediation from the Korea Medical Dispute Mediation and Arbitration Agency or other relevant bodies.
2. Patient Responsibilities
A. Duty to Trust and Respect Medical Personnel
Patients shall accurately inform medical personnel of their health-related information and shall trust and respect the treatment plans of medical personnel.
B. Duty Not to Receive Medical Care by Fraudulent Means
Patients shall disclose their identity before receiving medical care and shall not receive medical care by false or fraudulent means, such as receiving care under another person's name.
